Phonak powers up invisity in-ear receiver

Phonak has upgraded its popular invisity in-ear receiver by boosting its output volume, upgrading its programming software and enhancing the earpiece’s durability.

Now six years old and used by thousands of broadcasters and film makers around the world for discrete script prompting and other directions, invisity is the smallest in-ear radio receiver in the world.

Driven by Phonak’s strategy of continual innovation and listening to the market, invisity’s developers have improved the invisity earpiece in several ways, all with the aim of more closely meeting the needs of actors, presenters and other performers.

New invisity features:

Increased in-ear volume

By boosting invisity’s in-ear volume (Vol 1 setting 98dB, Vol 2 106dB), speech intelligibility is improved. This is particularly crucial for challenging sound situations such as TV recordings with large audiences and filming on location.

Highly ruggedised battery compartment

By improving the strength of this component, Phonak saves audio professionals money and hassle by minimizing potential breakages. This compartment’s color has also been changed, from green to beige, allowing sound professionals to quickly ascertain which invisity receivers are new and which are older models.

New invisity IPU software (v.1.3)

This new software version allows invisity FLEX users to reprogram the earpiece’s volume for the first time (the same volume functionality as invisity FOUR). invisity IPU software is used in combination with the Invisity Programming Unit (IPU) and will be available to download from this page from December 2010 onwards.

Additional invisity volume tips

In-ear volume is not the only factor that determines speech intelligibility. invisity users should also consider:

- using Soft Wraps to improve in-ear fit and reduce surrounding noise

- checking the waxguard and cleaning or replacing as necessary

- testing invisity in each ear (as hearing ability can differ)
